Swapping out his signature beach landscapes for the peaks and valleys of the Tetons, Nathan Coe's crisp new wintertime series is striking, dynamic, and unlike anything he's ever done before.
The awe-inspiring vistas of Jackson Hole naturally lend themselves to Coe’s classical style, making for vividly detailed scenes that become increasingly powerful upon closer look. Beneath bright blue skies, his nude female figure situates herself boldly at the center of the action as she skis, snowshoes, and rides on horseback through the icy slopes.
Highlighted works from the new series include Grand Tetons and Backside of the Tetons, featuring Coe’s confident protagonist with ski poles in hand, set against the grand rise of the towering mountains. The juxtaposition of the nude human form against the ice-cold landscape adds a new dimension to Coe's work, resulting in photographs that feel sensual yet elegant at once. In this new body of work, movement and stillness exist simultaneously; the landscape remains still and vast, while the figure glides seamlessly through each tableau.
